Tranquil Hearts

Holding you, my tiny babe,

Against me, warm

As the late-day sun

Streams in

Quiet.

The sunlight is silent

And so are you

For this moment –

Your chest on my chest,

Your bare neck on my bare neck,

Your pulse against my pulse –

Separate,

Yet, you came from me.

Your pulse was once my pulse;

Your blood was my blood,

Your heart grew as my heart beat

Every second you were inside.

Now I hold your arms –

Your whole little body –

In my arms

And marvel in silent awe

At your existence –

Your perfect, warm little life.
